Astor College: CooperHomewood

Astor College underwent a major refurbishment to be repurposed as a student hall of residence for University College London (UCL). Located within the Borough of Westminster, this educational facility was transformed as part of UCL’s broader commitment to enhancing the quality of its student accommodation.

The project encompassed both internal and external refurbishment works, creating more spacious, brighter cluster-style accommodation, and included the extension of the rear courtyard to improve communal living areas. The renovation successfully balanced modern living standards with the preservation of the site’s educational function and urban character.

Cooper Homewood were appointed to deliver the full detailed design of the mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEP) services, including all technical specifications and construction drawings.

Our scope also included the development of an integrated energy strategy, which featured roof-mounted photovoltaic panels and a combined heat and power (CHP) system supplied from a neighbouring UCL facility.

The entire design process was delivered collaboratively in Autodesk Revit to BIM Level 2, ensuring coordinated digital modelling across all disciplines and seamless integration with the wider project team.
